Take A Trek
Walking Tour of space themed attractions for you to experience the take a trek in the town of Vulcan!
1. Vulcan Tourism & Trek Station
The perfect place to Take A Trek, Vulcan Alberta.
Vulcan County’s unique and official Tourist Information Centre opened in October 1998. It was designed to resemble a Space Station to honour Vulcan’s homage to Star Trek and Mr Spock’s fictitious home planet.
Take a Trek thru the Station’s doors, and imagine that you have beamed down to the surface of an alien planet, as you take in the science fiction inspired planet landscape murals.
Have your picture taken in one of our Star Trek costumes, while standing next to your favourite series character on our life sized star ship bridge, or save the planet Earth from alien invaders in our new Virtual Reality Game – the Vulcan Space Adventure.
While you are here, browse our memorabilia collection or shop for the perfect gift for the Trekkie/Trekker in your life in our gift shop.
Open year round,
Vulcan Tourism & Trek Station
also features a local collection of County and Province wide tourist information to assist you in planning your Alberta Travel vacation.
2. Vulcan Star Ship FX6-1995-A
At the entrance to town, stop and admire the 31 foot long, 9 foot tall replica Star Ship, inspired by the original Star Trek series USS Enterprise.
The Star Ship was named after the Vulcan airports identifier ‘FX6’, ‘1995’ was the year it was unveiled and ‘A’ signifies the first project launched in pursuit of development of the Science and Trek theme. Be sure to notice the plaques engraved on the base, written in English, Klingon and Vulcan languages.
3. Vulcan Space Mural
Take a Trek across the road from the Vulcan Tourism & Trek Station,to see another unique mural designed by local artist Kim Fortin. Located on the north side of the Magnuson Real Estate Office Building.
It reflects elements of Vulcan’s Prairie History and Science Fiction. See if you can find the 3 hidden pictures within this mural.
4. The Doctors of Star Trek Mural
Located on the wall of Wright’s Pharmacy, in downtown Vulcan on Vulcan St/Centre St, this mural, was also designed and painted by Kim Fortin. See if you can identify which Doctor went with the Star Trek Series.
5. Vulcan's Space Themed Water Park
Cool off a friend with a laser-like blast of water from space cannons, dodge the showers spouting out from the top of the star ship, or create your own waterworks with the interactive pools and falls.
The Vulcan Water Park is part of the Lion’s Pool Complex and operates during the summer months and is located on Vulcan St/Centre Street. Take a Trek if you dare!
6. Vulcan Post Office
How does the local post office located on Minerva St/ 2nd St fit into our Take a Trek Walking Tour? In the fall of 2006, Canada Post granted Vulcan a unique cancellation stamp featuring the Vulcan Tourism & Trek Station.
You can request that this stamp be used on the postcards you send to family and friends, or simply ask the postmaster to stamp a blank piece of paper for you to put into your scrapbook of Vulcan Memories.
The Star Trek -
Themed tourist station ,the space murals and alien signage that grace the walls and street corners of this little town on the Canadian prairies attracts hundreds of fans from around the world.
