Town of Vulcan

A progressive place the town of Vulcan is approximately 1762 people. The town is located 100 km south of Calgary and 100 km north of Lethbridge on Highway 23It is primarily an agricultural community. However, Vulcan has been host to some strange and interesting encounters.



Vulcan Roman God of Fire

Vulcan was named by a Canadian Pacific Railway employee who came to survey the land. This particular employee had a fascination with Roman mythology. Vulcan is the Roman God of fire and blacksmithing. Vulcan (or Vulcanus) was the highest elevation point on the CPR line at that time. An interesting story that lead to an interesting future for the town of Vulcan

Vulcan  Alberta Grain Elevators

Vulcan, Alberta  Famous for "Nine-in-a-line" Grain Elevators - CPR (Canadian Pacific Railroad) have been the link to the past. Vulcan has the bragging right to itself the “World’s Largest Primary Grain Shipping Point. The demolition of grain elevators is a great loss for Prairie towns and everyone!



Star Trek History - Noted for its adoption of the Star Trek theme. The town Of Vulcan is host to Spock Days and the Galaxy Fest annually during the second weekend in June. The County of Vulcan is an agricultural community but petrolium, tourism and recreation play a vital role in the economy.

Active Living and Recreation - Get out and play at the Vulcan 18 hole golf course, enjoy the Walking path and many other recreation activities in the area. The County of Vulcan has lakes and resorts for boating, fishing, water sports and camping.

Community Clubs and Services - Red Hatters, Flying Club, Communities in Bloom, and many more .... The commitment of our residents to ensure the continuing vitality of programs within the district is a salute to volunteerism.

Vulcan continues to lead in the challenges of rural government. At present several major projects are being pursued. These include: a solar energy project, relocation of the Town sewage lagoons, relocation of the fire, police, and emergency services into a centralized Tri-Services building, and expansion of water treatment facilities and lines for provision of county-wide water system.

Excellent schools, medical facilities, parks and recreational facilities, and outstanding RCMP and Citizens on Patrol services all combine to make the Town of Vulcan an attractive place to live in safety with young families.
